Abarzanan

In 2018, the Abarzanan-Superwomen art exhibitions were initiated to honor Afghanistan's inspiring women and showcase the country's past, present, and future. The project featured historical figures like Gawharshad Begum, the empress of the Timurid dynasty, and contemporary women who have made significant contributions. Collaborating with Afghan and international artists, wearable artworks, paintings, and installations were created to highlight the subjects' contribution to history and empower women to realize their full potential. Each piece carried a story of Afghan heritage and female strength, featuring traditional Afghan trade practices that are at risk of being lost, such as embroidery, tile patterns, and jewelry design. The first exhibition opened on March 8, 2019, and was followed by two more versions, featuring women from Iran, Pakistan, and Honduras. The exhibitions were a resounding success, sparking conversations on women's rights in Afghanistan and gaining national and international media coverage.
